What about getting around once you're here! Our distances are much greater than in Europe, so many times flying is the best way to get from point A to point B. Especially if it's coast to coast where the distance is 3,000 miles. From state-to-state you usually can drive and the Interstate system makes it easy to get around. Also we do not have "hostels" as such or as many "bed and breakfasts", however, if you're going to stay a week, many times you can find a great condo or villa at a much lower cost than a hotel room for the same period of time.
If you travel light, which makes life so much easier - keep in mind that we have lots of discount shopping in every major city, whole malls filled with discount merchants, in case you want to experiment that way. It is usually last season's merchandise, but priced fairly. It's good to know about, because many times you can find big changes in the weather if you are traveling from state-to-state or especially coast-to-coast. New York in July is HOT, San Francisco can be down right cold. In case you haven't packed everything you need, just remember those discount malls. If you take medication, be sure to bring it with you, enough that you don't run out. Also be sure to carry it in your carry-on, so it isn't lost. Prescription drugs are the name the game here in the U.S.A and you must get the prescription from a doctor, a little different than many of the over-the-counter drugs available in Europe. For some drugs, you might try an online source If you do get ill, the best thing to do is to go to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care Facility of any hospital! Or many times, a major hotel will have a doctor on call. But be prepared, so you have no unwelcome surprises.
